#StoryCraft Transcript, July 18, 2010 – Mark David Gerson

Today’s #Storycraft was hosted by Mark David Gerson, writing coach, script analyst and author of  “The Moon Quest” and one of my favourite inspirational writing books: “The Voice of the Muse” It was Mark David’s recent blog post on The Myth of Writer’s Block which prompted me to send a cheeky Direct Message to ask if he might guest host on the topic and I was thrilled when he said Yes!
Thank you, Mark David, I know that my writing week has been given a great kick start and I’m sure the rest of the #storycraft gang (lurkers and new contributors included!) feel the same.

All times are Pacific Time
July 18, 2010
10:00 pm Story_Craft: And it’s #storycraft time! Does everyone have their cup of something and ready to talk Writer’s Block?
10:01 pm Story_Craft: Today we are very lucky to have with us writing coach and author @MarkDavidGerson. Welcome, Mark David! #storycraft
10:02 pm Story_Craft: After Mark David’s post on writer’s block http://ht.ly/2d8wE , I thought I’d ask if he could host a #Storycraft on the topic – he said Yes!
10:02 pm gioclair: No cup! I forgot (going to fix a cocoa (despite the heat) #storycraft
10:02 pm markdavidgerson: It’s great to be here! THanks for the invite #storycraft
10:03 pm markdavidgerson: @snowppl I know. I always get it wrong!! #storycraft #storychat
10:03 pm leapetra: Heading over to #storycraft see you there #writechat
10:03 pm Story_Craft: Having read @markdavidgerson ‘s book on writing “The Voice of the Muse”, I know we’re in for a treat! #storycraft Take it away Mark David!
10:04 pm snowppl: @markdavidgerson lol me too #storycraft
10:04 pm Ren_Thompson: RT @Story_Craft: And it’s #storycraft time! Does everyone have their cup of something and ready to talk Writer’s Block?
10:04 pm gioclair: RT @markdavidgerson: It’s great to be here! THanks for the invite #storycraft<<Hello from Paris #storycraft
10:04 pm markdavidgerson: @Nickinson Describe what happens when you get blocked… #storycraft
10:04 pm youngshay112: @markdavidgerson sometimes i feel blocked, but i keep writing what seems 2b crap. Is this good, 2do anything just 2b in action #storycraft
10:06 pm markdavidgerson: @youngshay112 that’s a perfect strategy. 1 of the sol’ns is to keep moving forward, even if U think it’s the worst crap ever! #storycraft
10:06 pm markdavidgerson: @gioclair bonjour…et bienvenue! #storycraft #storycraft
10:06 pm Nickinson: @MarkDavidGerson Well when I get blocked I can’t think through whatever stage I’m in. And If I try to fight it I write poorly. #storycraft
10:06 pm markdavidgerson: @gioclair (I grew up in Montreal) #storycraft #storycraft
10:06 pm Story_Craft: RT @Story_Craft: @gioclair Salut Gio! Thank you for staying up so late! #storycraft
10:06 pm snowppl: @markdavidgerson is wonderful! @story_craft #storycraft Voice of the Muse is a great resource
10:07 pm Madison_Woods: I’ll be here lurking, for a few minutes or until company arrives. Great topic, wish I could stay! #storycraft
10:07 pm markdavidgerson: anyone here believe (as some do) that writer’s block doesn’t really exist? #storycraft
10:07 pm markdavidgerson: RT @snowppl: @markdavidgerson is wonderful! @story_craft #storycraft Voice of the Muse is a great resource <thanks!>
10:07 pm ShaliniBoland: Evening #storycraft I’m tentatively here, but the mere mention of the words ‘writer’s block’ makes my brain start to freeze.
10:07 pm leapetra: Right now I am blocked, but I know it’s because I am dealing with kidney stones. not because of the story. #storycraft
10:07 pm Story_Craft: RT @snowppl: @markdavidgerson is wonderful! @story_craft #storycraft Voice of the Muse is a great resource << Absolutely!
10:08 pm gioclair: RT @markdavidgerson: @gioclair (I grew up in Montreal) #storycraft <<<Never been there, but one day I will (vous allez bien?)
10:08 pm kristadb1: #storycraft I don’t believe writer’s block exists. It’s merely wanting to do something else, having trouble with a project, etc.
10:08 pm markdavidgerson: @Nickinson can you not think and not judge? Overthinking and self-judgment are great blockers #storycraft
10:08 pm Story_Craft: RT @ShaliniBoland: Evening #storycraft the mere mention of ‘writer’s block’ makes my brain freeze. << You’re in the perfect place then!
10:08 pm snowppl: @Story_Craft I even have my signed by @markdavidgerson in person! :D lol #storycraft
10:08 pm youngshay112: @markdavidgerson i think of writing as a hose. Sometimes it gets crimped but u can get SOMETHING out. I hate trying sometimes #storycraft
10:08 pm JFHilborne: #storycraft: edit as you go or edit at the end? I often find if I edit as I go, it unblocks a block or improves a scene.
10:09 pm markdavidgerson: @Nickinson Can u, instead, just keep writing…even if u think it’s crap and, perhaps, going in the wrong direction? #storycraft
10:09 pm Story_Craft: RT @Madison_Woods wish I could stay! #storycraft << Me too. Glad you could pop in at least :) Transcript will be on the blog of course.
10:09 pm kristadb1: #storycraft I think sometimes just working on a new project, or pushing through the current one, is the best policy.
10:09 pm AuthorWilliam: Is #storycraft a writing discussion?
10:09 pm markdavidgerson: @JFHilborne That’s great. On the other hand, I find if I edit as I go it gets my judgment going and I ge blocked! #storycraft
10:09 pm snowppl: Today is movie day The Craft while participating in #storycraft
10:10 pm markdavidgerson: @JFHilborne different solutions for different writers, different situations, different days #storycraft
10:10 pm youngshay112: Does anyone have a strict time of day or place where u write best? Can u deviate or do u get blocked #storycraft
10:10 pm markdavidgerson: @AuthorWilliam yes it is. Aimed at fiction writers, mostly. Today we’re talking, initially, about writer’s block. #storycraft
10:10 pm leapetra: @AuthorWilliam yup, more towards the craft and not the business #storycraft
10:10 pm Nickinson: @MarkDavidGerson hmmm idk. I’ll see and try that. #storycraft
10:10 pm Story_Craft: RT @snowppl: @Story_Craft I even have my signed by @markdavidgerson in person! :D lol #storycraft<< Ooh Fancy! I got mine through Amazon :(
10:11 pm markdavidgerson: @kristadb1 sometimes, we get blocked, tho, because it’s just not the right time to continue. In those situations, it can be… #storycraft
10:11 pm AidanFritz: @youngshay112 more productive in the morning; but I’m a morning person… everything is better in the morning :) #storycraft
10:11 pm AuthorWilliam: @MarkDavidGerson Excellent, this is the first I’m hearing. I’d love to listen in #storycraft. Thanks for tweeting back!
10:11 pm Story_Craft: RT @markdavidgerson: I find if I edit as I go it gets my judgment going and I ge blocked! #storycraft<< I’m in that camp, too.
10:11 pm JFHilborne: @MarkDavidGerson #storycraft yes, this is true. I cranked out 16 chapters on my 3rd novel and am struggling with chapter 17. Blocked.
10:12 pm AuthorWilliam: @MarkDavidGerson What’s the regular time for #storycraft?
10:12 pm ShaliniBoland: RT @Story_Craft: RT You’re in the perfect place then! <<< Ha! Perfect. #storycraft
10:12 pm dawnkurtagich: Nope. No set time of day for writing for me. Anywhere, any time, I’m usually good to go. If I get stuck, I read thru and edit. #storycraft
10:12 pm so_you_know: @Danisidhe you buy a new one while you miss #storycraft. :( :( *stomps foot* have fun all. Sounds interesting as always.
10:12 pm Story_Craft: RT @AuthorWilliam: Is #storycraft a writing discussion? << Yep. A weekly one on fiction writing. Today’s topic is writer’s block :) Join us!
10:12 pm AuthorWilliam: @leapetra Excellent, nice to meet you by the way. We have @Wildbloom in common. #storycraft
10:12 pm heatherayris: @markdavidgerson I’m not certain if I believe in writer’s block. I think sometimes we just need to take a break from writing. #storycraft
10:12 pm markdavidgerson: …best to put a project aside for a bit and work on something else #storycraft
10:13 pm kristadb1: #storycraft When I started writing freelance, I discovered all of the blocks went away. Why? Because I *had* to finish projects. Or, no pay.
10:13 pm AuthorWilliam: @Story_Craft Thank you! #storycraft
10:13 pm JFHilborne: @AidanFritz :me, too, more productive in the morning. Hard when you have a full time job and can only write in the evening #storycraft
10:13 pm markdavidgerson: @heatherayris that’s what my last tweet was about! That’s also why I call writer’s block a “myth”…. #storycraft
10:14 pm kristadb1: @markdavidgerson #storycraft Been know to write in a draft “he kills her, should be a page long” and moved on to the next scene. Helped!
10:14 pm markdavidgerson: @heatherayris not because we don’t get stuck, but because we often look at that stuckness in self-defeating ways #storycraft
10:14 pm AuthorWilliam: RT @kristadb1: #storycraft When I started writing freelance, I discovered all of the blocks went away. Why? Because I *had* to finish projects. Or, no pay.
10:14 pm heatherayris: @MarkDavidGerson Yup, or sometimes we need a break from that particular piece. #storycraft
10:14 pm leapetra: My writing schedule is different during the weekdays. I write what I can when ever I can (usually the bus ride) #storycraft
10:14 pm Story_Craft: RT @AuthorWilliam: What’s the regular time for #storycraft? Sunday 3pm in your part of the world :) The blog is here: http://ht.ly/2d8Wu
10:15 pm mariedees: @kristadb1 I once came across an old draft where I wrote “this part is boring. Dump it” #storycraft
10:15 pm AidanFritz: @JFHilborne yes, I’ve woken up even earlier to write but that doesn’t work for too long #storycraft
10:15 pm FlightsoFantasy: @MarkDavidGerson When I get Writer’s block, I manifest it in a sketch. then try to figure out what the real problem is. #storycraft
10:15 pm AuthorWilliam: @kristadb1 I like that. I use a [brackets] when I need a word but don’t want to stop and look for the right one. #storycraft
10:15 pm markdavidgerson: @kristadb1 external deadlines can be good. But, to me, having to rely on them can demonstrate a lack of committment to selves #storycraft
10:15 pm so_you_know: @Story_Craft ooo I really wanted to participate given since I started writing twice a week, no issues with writer’s block. #storycraft
10:15 pm kristadb1: #storycraft The only thing about “breaks” is the people who have never finished anything and have 15 open projects. Perhaps time to finish 1
10:15 pm ShaliniBoland: RT @dawnkurtagich: If I get stuck, I read thru and edit. <<< That’s what I do. Read through and then hope to get a flow going. .#storycraft
10:15 pm AuthorWilliam: RT @kristadb1: @markdavidgerson #storycraft Been know to write in a draft “he kills her, should be a page long” and moved on to the next scene. Helped!
10:16 pm Story_Craft: RT @kristadb1: #storycraft Or, no pay. << Ah! The Hunger hehe
10:16 pm markdavidgerson: BTW, if I miss answering your question, ask it again. It’s sometimes hard to keep up! lol #storycraft
10:16 pm kyledockery: Hey #storycraft. I’ll probably lurk mostly but what’s today’s topic?
10:16 pm kristadb1: @markdavidgerson #storycraft Sometimes, freelancing with external deadlines teaches people to get over the “block” and learn to write :)
10:17 pm Story_Craft: RT @kristadb1: @markdavidgerson #storycraft Been know to write in a draft “he kills her, should be a page long” Helped! << I LOVE IT!!
10:17 pm leapetra: I don’t stop writing because I don’t know what to write. But I will pause and think about it. #storycraft
10:17 pm JSterlingS: Some of us are extremely determined… ducks. Been working on my #wip for 2 years. Only 31k in, but far from done. #storycraft
10:17 pm JFHilborne: @kristadb1 Been know to write in a draft ‘he kills her, should be a page long” & moved on to the next scene. Helped! Great Idea #storycraft
10:17 pm LiaKeyes: Eager to learn about writing blocks at #storycraft
10:18 pm markdavidgerson: @AuthorWilliam that’s a great technique (and one I recommend in my writing book!) #storycraft
10:18 pm snowppl: @leapetra I do that to deepen myself into the scene #storycraft
10:18 pm leapetra: Thanks to NaNoWriMo, I set a word count to hit everyday. 250, 500, 5000 what ever works. #storycraft
10:18 pm so_you_know: @Story_Craft feel like kid who is grounded& can see others play but can’t play herself! hard to participate via crackberry #storycraft
10:19 pm Story_Craft: @so_you_know Yay for twitter for Blackberry. Glad you can be here in some form :) #storycraft
10:19 pm AuthorWilliam: @markdavidgerson Great minds! :-) #storycraft
10:19 pm markdavidgerson: @AuthorWilliam absolutely lol #storycraft
10:19 pm Story_Craft: RT @markdavidgerson: BTW, if I miss answering your question, ask it again. #storycraft << I’ll try to RT, too :)
10:20 pm markdavidgerson: @AuthorWilliam and if I can’t think of *any* word, I just type xxxxxx #storycraft
10:20 pm kristadb1: @leapetra #storycraft I don’t use set word counts anymore. I write less, but also have less “waste” these days. do use long-term goals, tho
10:20 pm AuthorWilliam: @markdavidgerson Nice! Do you do it to maintain rhythm? #storycraft
10:21 pm Story_Craft: RT @AuthorWilliam: I use a [brackets] when I need a word but don’t want to stop and look for the right one. #storycraft #writechat #litchat
10:21 pm markdavidgerson: We can also feel stuck/blocked if we’re writing about something we’ve lost our passion for. #storycraft
10:21 pm leapetra: @kristadb1 The long term goal is the important one. But the daily goals work for me to aim for something. #storycraft
10:21 pm markdavidgerson: @AuthorWilliam no, I do it so I know *something* needs to go there….I just don’t know what! lol #storycraft
10:22 pm JFHilborne: how about chapters, long v short? I like to see them mixed in a book, with both #storycraft
10:22 pm Story_Craft: RT @kyledockery: Hey #storycraft. what’s today’s topic? @MarkDavidGerson is guest host on “The Mythof Writer’s Block” Lurkers most welcome!
10:22 pm AuthorWilliam: @MarkDavidGerson I’ll throw a ? in brackets. [?] I’ll also do that if a character arrives and I don’t have a name for ‘em yet. #storycraft
10:22 pm kristadb1: @leapetra #storycraft Do you outline at all? I sometimes have word counts attached to scenes, so I do have an overall “goal”, if you will.
10:22 pm markdavidgerson: @soulsprite fear/anxiety huge cause of stuckness. Sol’ns? Take a break. Or a shower. Go for a walk. Anything 2 break the pattern #storycraft
10:23 pm markcotton: @JFHilborne I prefer reading books with shorter chapters, so I try to write mine that way. #storycraft
10:23 pm markdavidgerson: @leapetra goals are great…unless we use them to beat ourselves up…in which case they can cause more stuckness! #storycraft
10:23 pm leapetra: @kristadb1 i love that, I had recently “I am asfjlda ahglahjg asgh” Because I could not think of a name #storycraft
10:23 pm kristadb1: #storycraft @jfhilborne I hate long chapters. I want scenes and chapters well developed but I don’t like it when they prattle on.
10:23 pm Story_Craft: RT @markdavidgerson: We can also feel stuck/blocked if we’re writing about something we’ve lost our passion for. #storycraft
10:23 pm soulsprite: @MarkDavidGerson Anxiety causes brain malfunction may be a cause of wrtrs blk. What do you think works to alleviate anxiety? #storycraft
10:23 pm markdavidgerson: @AuthorWilliam same general idea. and a good one #storycraft
10:24 pm ShaliniBoland: RT @markdavidgerson: BTW, I just recently posted a blog piece called The Myth of Writer’s Block. U might find some good hints http://bit.ly/aRKtOn #storycraft
10:24 pm AuthorWilliam: @kristadb1 LOL, my wife says the same think about the City of Los Angeles but I still see beauty in it. Sounds similar. :-) #storycraft
10:24 pm markdavidgerson: Thx, btw, for the follows. I’ll follow back when we’re done with #storycraft
10:24 pm AidanFritz: @kristadb1 I started adding word count approx to my scenes… nice to know I’m not the only one #storycraft
10:24 pm JFHilborne: @markcotton : makes it easy to pause if you need to & come back. I’ve heard both sides, but tend to write short chps in my books #storycraft
10:25 pm leapetra: @kristadb1 No outline. I know what the begining is, and the end. And a ending word goal. That helps me plan the ups and downs. #storycraft
10:25 pm AuthorWilliam: @MarkDavidGerson Thank you for sharing that. Its a good practical tool for our toolbelt. #storycraft
10:25 pm markdavidgerson: @soulsprite also good to examine what’s causing anxiety. Is it a not-good-enough thing? A deadline thing? A blank page thing? #storycraft
10:25 pm ShaliniBoland: RT @markdavidgerson: @AuthorWilliam and if I can’t think of *any* word, I just type xxxxxx #storycraft << I do the same but with asterisks
10:25 pm JFHilborne: @kristadb1 : Agreed. Nothing worse than a looooong chapter that should have ended pages earlier #storycraft
10:26 pm leapetra: @markdavidgerson I have also been losing weight (100 lbs so far) If you miss a day, start over the next. writing or weight lost. #storycraft
10:26 pm markcotton: @JFHilborne I do it mainly to move the action along quickly. But, it may take me several sessions to finish a short chapter #storycraft
10:26 pm AmbrielleKirk: RT @markdavidgerson: We can also feel stuck/blocked if we’re writing about something we’ve lost our passion for. #storycraft
10:27 pm snowppl: @leapetra I’ve found that out too. Stick to it! #storycraft
10:27 pm ShaliniBoland: Sometimes it helps to just go for a walk or a run, or just look at a nice view #storycraft Sometimes it doesn’t :(
10:27 pm AuthorWilliam: I stopped writing on computers because I found blank word doc pages more put-off-ing than a lined notebook. Haven’t gone back. #storycraft
10:27 pm markdavidgerson: @dleeo My claim that it’s a “myth” is tongue-in-cheek/intentionally controversial. Am really inviting ppl to see it differently #storycraft
10:27 pm soulsprite: @leapetra Thank goodness for ‘start overs’. Congrats on weight loss…I’m working on that, too. #storycraft
10:27 pm Madison_Woods: @markdavidgerson I’ll highlight areas that need something, or when what I wrote is the closest I could get, but still not right. #storycraft
10:28 pm Story_Craft: Today’s #storycraft topic is The Myth of Writer’s Block, with guest host @MarkDavidGerson! (@Danisidhe behind @Story_Craft as usual :)
10:28 pm JFHilborne: @markcotton : Yep. I deleted 30% of my 1st novel, found the pace so much faster. I chop sentences to make them short and punchy #storycraft
10:29 pm markdavidgerson: A reason I don’t edit as I write is becuz I know that what I edit today may get cut in next draft. Easier to move forward #storycraft
10:29 pm Madison_Woods: @kristadb1 I like and write shorter chapters. Maybe too short. They average around 5- 7 pgs or so. #storycraft
10:29 pm Story_Craft: RT @markdavidgerson: Important to treat outline as a *loose* means to an end. #storycraft
10:29 pm AuthorWilliam: @ShaliniBoland That’s nice. Done that too. I love desert photos. Sometimes those get my juices going before a writing session #storycraft
10:29 pm jessenovels: Never censor yourself in writing, get as graphic you want. #storycraft
10:29 pm leapetra: @snowppl @soulsprite I think writing is the harder of the two :) #storycraft
10:30 pm Story_Craft: RT @markdavidgerson: goals are great…unless we use them to beat ourselves up…in which case they can cause more stuckness! #storycraft
10:30 pm susan_see: @MarkDavidGerson Esp. when you’re fighting the realisation that you’ve lost that certain passion. #storycraft
10:30 pm markdavidgerson: Much harder to get stuck when our topic/material keeps us on fire! #storycraft
10:30 pm AuthorWilliam: RT @markdavidgerson: Important to treat outline as a *loose* means to an end.<<<Very true. An outliner can flow away from it. #storycraft
10:30 pm JFHilborne: @Madison_Woods : same here, mine average 6 pages #storycraft
10:30 pm Story_Craft: RT @ShaliniBoland: Sometimes it helps to just go for a walk or a run, or just look at a nice view #storycraft Sometimes it doesn’t :(
10:30 pm markdavidgerson: RT @jessenovels: Never censor yourself in writing, get as graphic you want. #storycraft <absolutely! can always edit out in nxt drft>
10:30 pm snowppl: @leapetra I agree. #storycraft
10:31 pm AidanFritz: Do people find they get stuck in revisions? I rarely get stuck in 1st draft; but occasionally must drag myself to the revision #storycraft
10:31 pm markdavidgerson: @susan_see if you’ve lost the passion, important to note whether it’s becuz of fear or becuz we’re done w that idea, for now #storycraft
10:31 pm AuthorWilliam: @JFHilborne I transcribe once the 1st draft is done. Some longer rewrites I’ll do longhand & transcribe those. I like the feel. #storycraft
10:31 pm LazetteG: If someone writes more about their writer’s block than they spend with their fiction, I think they have a different problem. #storycraft
10:32 pm Story_Craft: RT @markdavidgerson: I know that what I edit today may get cut in next draft. Easier to move forward #storycraft
10:32 pm JFHilborne: @MarkDavidGerson : harder to get stuck when we know our topic well. Blocks happen where we have knowledge gaps #storycraft
10:32 pm soulsprite: @leapetra If I’m writing I don’t think of food…it’s a great distraction, being in the flow. But if I don’t write…I’ll eat. #storycraft
10:32 pm markdavidgerson: If we feel honor-bound to stick w an outline but the story wants to move us in diff directions, easy to get blocked #storycraft
10:32 pm AuthorWilliam: RT @markdavidgerson: Much harder to get stuck when our topic/material keeps us on fire! #storycraft
10:33 pm AuthorWilliam: RT @markdavidgerson: If we feel honor-bound to stick w an outline but the story wants to move us in diff directions, easy to get blocked #storycraft
10:33 pm markdavidgerson: RT @ShaliniBoland: @markdavidgerson My prob more procrastination than block. Once I sit down with a blank page I’m usually good #storycraft
10:33 pm JFHilborne: @AuthorWilliam : my problem with longhand would be reading my own handwriting. #storycraft.
10:33 pm leapetra: I never get stuck in revisions because I have a deadline to hit and a have to get all revisions done by then. #storycraft
10:33 pm youngshay112: RT @MarkDavidGerson If we feel honorbound 2 stick w an outline but the story wants 2 move in diff directions, easy 2 get blocked #storycraft
10:33 pm Story_Craft: RT @AidanFritz: Do people find they get stuck in revisions? #storycraft << great question – editor’s block!
10:33 pm LazetteG: Different types of outlines work for different people. And different novels need different outlines. No one size fits all! #storycraft
10:33 pm MelissaWrites: RT @Story_Craft @AuthorWilliam: I use a [brackets] when I need a word but don’t want to stop and look for the right one. #storycraft
10:33 pm markdavidgerson: @ShaliniBoland important to see *why* we’re procrastinating. Avoidance can be as big a blocker as anything else #storycraft
10:33 pm jessenovels: When someone kindly tells you to tone down your writing, tell them to kindly drop dead #storycraft
10:34 pm markdavidgerson: @ShaliniBoland a lot of my coaching work is about helping ppl deal with time/procrastination/commitment issues #storycraft
10:34 pm AuthorWilliam: @JFHilborne Hehe, I hear that. I print. I wouldn’t dare write in cursive. It would be a Rachel Zoe “disaster” #storycraft
10:34 pm The_Jodi: Anyone have good tricks for restarting stalled passion for a project? #storycraft
10:34 pm soulsprite: @MarkDavidGerson What if you have a block regarding finishing a project. I’ve got it written, but editing forever. #storycraft
10:34 pm JFHilborne: @AidanFritz : I’m the opposite. Never stuck in revision, but sometimes in 1st draft #storycraft
10:35 pm AuthorWilliam: @ShaliniBoland LOL, yeah right. Sometime even if the pic just releases your passion and is otherwise unrelated, still valuable #storycraft
10:35 pm JFHilborne: @AuthorWilliam : haha, yep, mine looks like a spider got stuck in glue on the page #storycraft.
10:35 pm Story_Craft: RT @LazetteG: Different types of outlines work for diff. people. And different novels need different outlines. #storycraft << Absolutely!
10:36 pm Story_Craft: RT @markdavidgerson: Avoidance can be as big a blocker as anything else #storycraft
10:36 pm markcotton: @The_Jodi It helps me to re-read it from the beginning. Sometimes you forget what good there is there waiting. #storycraft
10:36 pm AuthorWilliam: RT @JFHilborne: @AuthorWilliam : yep, mine looks like a spider got stuck in glue on the page #storycraft.>>>ROFL! :-D Love it! #storycraft
10:36 pm ShaliniBoland: @MarkDavidGerson Any tips? Or is that off topic? Maybe cd do another chat on procrastination? Too many questions in one tweet? #storycraft
10:37 pm markdavidgerson: @dleeo Your story (art piece) created you because it needed something to hold the pen (paintbrush). The story knows itself. #storycraft
10:37 pm snowppl: I find that writing is a habit, something you have to do all the time #storycraft
10:37 pm AidanFritz: @JFHilborne I appear to be rarer… I’ll have to use peer pressure/bandwagon on it ;) #storycraft
10:37 pm JFHilborne: @MarkDavidGerson : very true, I’m guilty of that. A whole day researching and less than 100 words on the page #storycraft
10:37 pm ShaliniBoland: @AuthorWilliam Good one! Will nick that idea #storycraft
10:37 pm leapetra: @The_Jodi Showers work for me. Or thinking of what the movie trailer would look like (don’t know why, it works) #storycraft
10:37 pm susan_see: @MarkDavidGerson Yes, very true. All issues can be hard to uncover the true underlying reason. #storycraft
10:37 pm nzesylva: @AidanFritz I know that feeling> i experience it too #storycraft
10:37 pm LazetteG: Expecting perfection in a first draft is a big problem I’ve seen with new authors. Edit until they’re bored and never finish #storycraft
10:38 pm Story_Craft: RT @JFHilborne: @AidanFritz : I’m the opposite. Never stuck in revision, but sometimes in 1st draft #storycraft << me too
10:38 pm Story_Craft: RT @markcotton: @The_Jodi It helps me to re-read it from the beginning. Sometimes you forget what good there is there waiting. #storycraft
10:39 pm AuthorWilliam: @markdavidgerson That is such a powerful statement. An in-practice tip or do you believe our stories come from ancient places? #storycraft
10:39 pm leapetra: I have had writers block this weekend due to pain. Now in chat, I want to write. Go figure. #storycraft
